The Ghostbusters Proton Pack

First appearing in the 1984 film Ghostbusters, the Proton Pack is one of the most iconic pieces of movie prop design. Built as a fictional nuclear-powered ghost capture device, the pack combined industrial hardware, electronics and custom fabrication to create its distinctive technical appearance.

Because the original props were assembled from modified real-world components and custom-built parts, accurate replica builds rely heavily on correctly shaped shells and detailed add-on components.

The Mini Rad detector is a small handheld instrument worn on the Ghostbusters utility belt, most recognisably seen in the original Ghostbusters (1984) film. Intended within the fictional equipment set as a portable radiation or paranormal detection device, it formed part of the team’s standard field gear alongside the Proton Pack and PKE Meter.

On the original movie props, the Mini Rad contributed to the practical, industrial look of the Ghostbusters equipment, combining modified real-world components with custom detailing to create believable scientific hardware. Though smaller than the Proton Pack itself, it became an iconic accessory that helps complete an accurate Ghostbusters uniform and is a key detail for builders aiming for a screen-inspired belt setup.
